Have the opportunity to learn over 2 million years worth of history within just a few hours of the capital! Get up close to some of England’s most historic locations: Chester, Lancaster and Carlisle, each with their own unique story to tell.

From ancient ruins to amphitheatres, Elizabethan shopping streets to quintessential British pubs, these vibrant cities have much to offer and you’ll get to discover it all!

Day 1 – Chester
The first location that you can tick off your bucket list will be the beautiful city of Chester. Board the train from London’s Euston station for a comfortable 2 hour journey before you arrive at your first destination!

Check-in to your hotel and head off for a day of exploration in the city centre. As an introductory tour to Chester, embark on a City Wall’s Walking Tour. These city walls are the oldest and longest in Britain, with parts almost 2,000 years old. Armed with a Roman Guard, you’ll get the special chance to the walk across the entire City Walls which gives you sensational views of the city as you learn of its rich and vibrant history.

After you’ve got to grips with the ancient City Walls, visit the picturesque Chester Cathedral and take the Tower Tour for a historic insight into the city. You’ll have the chance to climb to the top of the central tower and soak in spectacular sights of far and wide - a truly unforgettable experience!

Top off your day tours with a cocktail making class and food at the scrumptious Oddfellows. This restaurant offers a fun and intimate setting with moss adorning the walls and a secret garden!

Day 2 – Lancaster

Takes you to the beautiful Lancaster where beauty and history come in equal measures! Jump on the train for a speedy 1 hour and 30 minutes journey and check-in to your next idyllic hotel.
Begin your visit with a trip to the wonderful Williamson Park and climb the hill to the famous Ashton Memorial. Sat like a miniature version of London’s St Paul’s, the Ashton Memorial dominates the Lancaster skyline and pays tribute to Lord Ashton’s late wife Jessy. Discover more about this famous landmark as you soak in sensational views of the town.

Travel back in time to the British tradition of hearty school dinners with the Borough’s School Dinners Menu (served Monday to Saturday from 12pm until 6.30pm). Tuck into something delicious with a gastro-pub twist!

After you’ve settled your appetite, why not embark on a walking tour of Lancaster, beginning with the world-famous Lancaster Castle? See the Hanging Corner, hear about the Pendle with Trials and test your nerves as you discover the brutal executions of 200 people that took place at the Castle!

During the evening, settle down to beautiful Twilight Canal Cruise accompanied with delicious British tradition of fish and chips!

Day 3 – Carlisle
Once your Lancaster adventures have come to an end, check out of your hotel and board the 52 minute train to the idyllic city of Carlisle. The last stop of your adventure will not disappoint so once you’ve checked into your hotel, head out into the city for more unmissable exploration!

Have the chance to visit Hadrian’s Wall built by the emperor Hadrian to keep out Scottish tribes. As one of the most famous landmarks in the UK, it is an absolute must-visit when visiting Carlisle paired with a visit to the Birdoswald Visitor Centre.

Use your afternoon leisure time to visit the historic Carlisle Castle which has dominated the city for nine centuries. From the exquisite medieval Castle rooms to the dungeons beneath the Castle, you’ll get to see and discover it all here!
